On 24th September 2020, the Immigration minister of Canada, Marco Mendicino, announced plan of action to swiftly deal with Canada spouse visa applications. This speeding up of application processing came in view to help families in Canada reunite and excel their future.
IRCC has increased number of decision makers for approval/disapproval of spousal applications in Canada. The overall number has seen increase of 66% to facilitate families and couples with speedy processes.
IRCC has decided to adapt to a new technology in a pilot to digitalize applications instead of paper application. This is to ensure that the applications are processed even more efficaciously by IRCC staff is working distantly as well as at various worksites. In addition, IRCC will be piloting, in the coming times, new technology to hold interviews for the applicants in a remote way, in compliance with public health guidelines.
This announcement means that IRCC is now aiming to speed-up, prioritize and decide upon nearly 6000 spouse visa applications every month from October onwards and till December 2020. Collectively along with the application processing till today, the current rate will result in approximately 49000 outcomes till the end of this year.
